According to Pep Guardiola Spain is an ‘authoritarian State’ while Qatar is an ‘open’ and ‘western’ country

The former Barcelona and current Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola read out a brief manifesto in front of thousand people in Barcelona on Sunday supporting the Independence referendum of Catalonia. During his speech, the former football player called Spain “an authoritarian” state.

This statement provoked a strong reactions from both politicians and civil society. The Spanish newspaper ABC didn’t forget to remember Guardiola saying that Qatar was “open” and “western” country while he was ambassador for the Qatar’s bid to host the 2022 World Cup.
