Angela Merkel urges Britain to ‘stay in’ the European Union

Mrs Merkel, speaking in Berlin ahead of an address by George Osborne, said “we will do what we can so that Britain can stay” and that she shares concern about “competitiveness and the better functioning of the EU”. She told an audience of business leaders: “I agree that the UK should remain a member of the European Union But, of course, the decision isn’t up to us, it is up to the British“.
