Pakistan’s Supreme Court has overturned the conviction of Asia Bibi, a Christian woman sentenced to death for blasphemy against Islam and ordered her freed. “The appeal is allowed. She has been acquitted. The judgement of high court as well as trial court is reversed. Her conviction is set aside,” said Pakistan’s Chief Justice Saqib Nisar in the ruling.
Pakistan’s Islamist party has called for the death of judges that overturned the death sentence of a woman convicted of Blasphemy. The Islamist party Tehreek-e-Labaikand its leader party has also called for the ouster of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government over the case.
