Democratic problems in Cambodia: will the EU take a stand on this?

Prime Minister Hun Sen on Monday announced plans to amend the election law to bar Cambodians with dual citizenship from being political party leaders—a move apparently aimed at CNRP President Sam Rainsy (who holds also French citizenship)—and said he would cut off his own right arm were he to arrange another royal pardon for the self-exiled opposition leader. “Dual citizenship is not the problem. The problem in Cambodia right now is corruption. The problem in Cambodia now is rule of law. The problem in Cambodia now is human rights violations. It’s not dual citizenship”, Sam Rainsy’s party spokesman said. (Phnom Penh Post)

On 24th November, Ramon Tremosa MEP tabled a written question on Democratic situation in Cambodia — Situation of rights defenders and opposition activists, violent repression of political opposition activists and the case of Sam Rainsy

Now, we wait the official position of the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini.
