BBC: Female genital mutilation (FGM) is increasingly being performed on babies and infants in the UK, the Victoria Derbyshire programme has been told. FGM expert and barrister Dr Charlotte Proudman said it was “almost impossible to detect” as the girls were not in school or old enough to report it. In one report, in Yorkshire, a victim was just one month old.
Over 200 million girls and womenhave suffered from Female Genital Mutilation across the world, including 500,000 living in Europe, World Health Organisation estimates. 3 million girls worldwide and 180,000 girls and women in Europe are estimated to be at risk every year.
