Formation of a New Government in Moldova

Moldova’s Parliament has approved the pro-European government of Valeriu Strelet, nominated after the last prime minister resigned

Strelet, 45, a lawmaker for the Liberal Democratic Party, wants closer relations with EU countries, a stepped-up fight against corruption and to normalize tense relations with Russia. (AFP)

The EU congratulates Valeriu Strelet upon his appointment as Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova. The EU looks forward to intensive cooperation with him and his government. (EEAS)

Also the US State Department welcomes the new Moldovan government. The United States remains committed to assisting Moldova as it fights corruption and promotes reforms. As an observer to the 5+2 negotiation process, the United States will continue to seek a comprehensive and peaceful settlement to the Transnistria conflict, supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova with special status for Transnistria.
