High tension between Turkey and Netherland: man raises Turkish flag at Dutch consulate in Istanbul

An unidentified man has raised a Turkish flag at the Dutch consulate in Istanbul on March 12 after lowering the Dutch flag amid a row between the two countries that was touched off by the Netherlands’ refusal to allow a Turkish minister to enter the Turkish consulate in Rotterdam, Hurriyet News reports.

Turkey’s President has warned the Netherlands will “pay the price” after two of his ministers were barred from addressing Turkish expats in the country. In response Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan decried the Dutch as “Nazi remnants”, while Prime Minister Binali Yildirim has threatened “harsh” retaliation. (ITV)

Also Denmark has joined a growing list of countries to block Turkey’s attempts at political campaigns in Europe. Germany‘s interior minister says there could be legal avenues to bar entry to referendum campaigners, Deutsche Welle reported.
