Italian PM Gentiloni: “Sanctions against Russia can’t be taken with an automatic pilot without a real debate on the situation”

No one believes that Italy will dissent on its own from its allies,” the PM said. “But no one thinks that decisions like sanctions can be taken with an automatic pilot without a real debate on the situation,” Italian PM Paolo Gentiloni said on Wednesday when meeting with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.

“It is necessary to resume the EU-Russia dialogue with strength,” Gentiloni added. “It is a strategic partnership that the Ukraine crisis cannot cancel out”.
