Italian Supercup in Saudi Arabia forbidden to women unless accompanied by men

Saudi Arabia is host to the 2018/19 Italian Supercup between Juventus and AC Milan, taking place in the “King Abdullah Sports City Stadium” in Jeddah on January 16th, 2019.

The future event already provoked controversy in Italy over the decision to reserve ‘single tickets’ only for men. Women would only be allowed to enter in the ‘family sector’ meaning that they will have to be accompanied by a man.

Italian Vice Prime Minister and Lega Nord leader Matteo Salvini immediately said that “the Italian Supercup in a country that doesn’t allow women into the stadium is rubbish!”

Former speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Laura Boldrini, leader of Brother of Italy party Giorgia Meloni and the pro-Europe party +Europa have spoken against this decision asking the Italian Football League and the two clubs to take a stance on this violation of women’s rights.
