Italy’s Renzi threw down the gauntlet to Brussels

European Commission representatives expressed their concerns Renzi’s pledge to abolish the IMU and Tasi taxes (‘House taxes’) on Wednesday. But the Italian PM immediately replied that “Somebody in Brussels thinks to draw up the list of taxes to cut“. “I hope this was because of the heat, it is up to us to decide which taxes to cut, not Brussels!” (Repubblica, Gazzetta del Sud)

He also added: “When we need to talk about migrant crisis, everybody in Brussels is on holiday but when they want to talk about taxation, they all woke up immediately!” (Corriere della Sera)
