A Muslim party running for cantonal elections in France

The Union of French Democratic Muslims announced on Thursday it will present 8 candidates for the departmental elections next 22 and 29 March. The party claims to be a secular movement, that wants to “leave the religious aspects of Islam to make use of its morality. Our aim, among the others, is to propose an ethic alternative to traditional finance”, as declared by Najib Azergui, leader of the UDMF. “It’s not a political operation, but a media one, that seeks to promote a different idea of Islam” stated Vincent Tiberj, sociologist of immigration.
