Primaires Gauche: Benoit Hamon in front of the country’s former Prime Minister Manual Valls

Results from France’s first round socialist presidential primary show Benoit Hamon in front of the country’s former Prime Minister Manual Valls. Hamon, a relative political unknown and ex-education minister under President Francois Hollande, was ahead with just over 36 percent of the vote.  (Euronews)

Valls took the second largest share with 31,6%, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Arnaud Montebourg, arrived third with 17,69 %, and suggested to vote for Hamon. Voters are between 1,5 and 2 millions. (Le Monde)

Hamon is representing the left-wing and politically green side of the Socialist Party during this primary.  Hamon is considered an admirer of US senator Bernie Sanders.
